Eyecatchers – Thursday, November 27th

Amongst the madness that was last weeks racing, I’ve found two eyecathers to add to the tracker.

Cork, Sunday 23rd, 12:30

  • Horse: Bokamsin (5yo)
  • Finishing Position: 3rd
  • SP: 80/1
  • Trainer: Henry de Bromhead

In a race where we may have witnessed one of Willie Mullins’ top novice hurdles win impressively, but it was Bokamsin who caught the eye for other reasons.

Sent off at 80/1, the Henry de Bromhead runner was having his second start over hurdles after 217 days on the sideline. But he left Cork with the promise of much more to come.

Given that it was only his second run over hurdles, connections may opt to get around in another maiden, maybe at Christmas time, and go from there with a handicap mark to exploit.

No matter what, this son of Kamsin has shown enough to suggest that his turn will not be too far away.

Tramore, Tuesday 25th, 1:05

  • Horse: Cousin Kate (4yo)
  • Finishing Position: 3rd
  • SP: 11/4F
  • Trainer: Denis Hogan

Coming into Tramore on Tuesday, Cousin Kate had already shown a liking for the seaside track when winning two stars back. She came in here showing improved form since that win, giving her every chance of making it two from three in her last three runs. But her chance of winning was hindered by the ride from trainer Denis Hogan.

Held up out the back, the mare was given too much to do up the home straight, and frustratingly for her backers, she could not reel in the winner, Pebble Bleu.

Before her Tramore third, her second to Willie Mullins’ May Call You Back at Gowran has worked out well. The 11-length third on the day has since gone on to score at Tramore, thirty minutes after Cousin Kate’s third-place finish.

Cousin Kate’s mark has been left unchanged, and granted a better ride in the saddle, she will be back to winning ways soon.
